“Sin Nombre” is a amazing debut for Cary Joji Fukunaga – an memoir about all the harrowing obstacles that illegal immigrants from Central America face before they ever even near the U.S. border, if they even manufacture it that far. I judge the trailer gives away too mighty already, so I’ll try to be careful what I say here. Willy is a member of Mara Salvatrucha and Sayra is making her map North when their paths intersect atop a narrate. Even with his eyes closed if he wanted to. But then I realized that Willy without his absorb gun and without his gang was honest a horrified boy running for his life like a rabbit. At that point, I realized unprejudiced how marvelous this movie was and I really got into it.

Fukunaga gets uniformly lovely low-key and histrionics-free performances out of his entire cast. Not a single obsolete link among all of them. The two leads are positive standouts but there’s a lot of salubrious work by the other actors. Lil’ Mago is absolutely terrifying; a figure straight out of a nightmare but collected seeming human. Martha Marlene is silly and very touching when we realize what her fate is going to be. Smiley is proper on the money – a colossal peformance by a child actor. Scarface reminds us that not all of the Mara Salvatrucha are kids; some of them actually survive into their 30’s and 40’s and so on. I judge the guy playing El Sol gets somewhat overlooked. His character doesn’t have Lil’ Mago’s eerie appearance but he manages to be every bit as scary honest the same.
Also, Mr. Fukunaga clearly knows his Shakespeare. Willy has two different relationships that both echo “Romeo and Juliet” and there’s a scene at the destroy that’s a new version of “Et tu, Brute? ” from “Julius Caesar”. But what I like most about him is his obstinacy. He was given a Sundance Studios green light to produce a film and he came up with a Spanish language account made in Mexico with an all-Hispanic cast. Not a single gringo in witness, but don’t let the sub-titles discourage you from experiencing a pleasant, extremely well-made, deeply enchanting film. Go sight it and pick the DVD when it comes out – it’s that wonderful.
Sin Nombre has it all – spacious acting, elegant cinematography, much themes, and astonishing realism. The realism is no accident. Young filmmaker Cary Fukunaga spent months in Mexico, interviewing both immigrants and gang members about their experiences. He shot on region, and many cast members are nonprofessionals. For example, Edgar Flores, in the lead role as a member of the Chiapas chapter of the brutal Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang, is straight off the streets of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
Despite the specific setting of the tumultuous U.S.-Mexico border, Sin Nombre addresses noteworthy and universal themes of damnation and redemption. At least, that’s how I saw it. In an interview, Fukunaga himself said he sees it as being about family – “the disintegration and recreation of the family unit in its original and varying forms.”
The position centers around a chance and fateful encounter between gang member Willy and a 15-year-old Honduran girl, Sayra (Paulina Gaitan), who is riding north through Mexico atop a stutter. Though Sayra’s lunge, viewers net an appreciation for the intense dangers faced by Central Americans trekking toward the promised land.
Without giving away anything, I can vow you a bit of background on how the film came about. Fukunaga, a native of the San Francisco Bay Site, was in film school in Recent York when he read a Recent York Times tale on a group of Mexican and Central American immigrants who died of asphyxiation and heat exhaustion while trapped and abandoned inside a refrigerated trailer. His short 2004 documentary about that case, “Victoria Para Chino,” won multiple film awards.
That project evolved into Sin Nombre, as Fukunaga explained in an IndieWire interview. Doing the research, he said, “I learned about the unpleasant straggle Central American immigrants went through in order to derive to the United States – crossing the infinitely more hazardous badlands of Mexico on top of (not in) freight trains dawdle for the US Border. It was like a world that belonged to the aged wild west.”
Against the advice of friends, Fukunaga gained intimacy with his topic by taking the same harrowing train-top stagger that he would film. On his first lag, with 700 Central American immigrants, the screech was attacked within three hours:
“We were somewhere in the pitch murky regions of the Chiapan country side. In the alcove of the next assert car I heard the clear pops of gunshots, always louder than they seem in the movies, then the screams of immigrants passing the word: ‘Pandillas! Pandillas!’ (gangsters) . Everyone scattered, I could hear them running in past our tanker car. Not having any where to hasten to, I stayed on…. The next day I talked to two Hondurans who were next to the attack. They told me a Guatemalan immigrant didn’t want to give two bandits his money so they shot him and throw him under the speak. [Later] I learned the police had found the body of a Guatemalan immigrant, shot and abandoned…. Nothing could have driven home the sensation of dismay and impotence than what I had felt first hand with those immigrants.”
Fukunaga’s willingness and ability to stare through the eyes of others probably owes worthy to his upbringing. Fukunaga is described in an L.A. Times article as “a wandering spirit with a Japanese father, a Swedish mother, a Chicano stepdad and an Argentine stepmom [who] can’t be reduced to the sum of his parts, ethnic or otherwise. Growing up, he shuffled from the suburbs to the country to the barrio (’Crips and Bloods, people getting shot’) to the East Bay’s hillside bourgeois enclaves. His family, he says, always has been a ‘conglomeration of individual, sort of displaced people,’ recombinations of relatives and step-relatives, blood kin and surrogate kin, parents and what he calls “pseudo-parents” who treated him like a son.”
With this background, Fukunaga was able to bewitch not only the immigrant experience, but the pathos of gang life in Central America and Mexico, with brutality and hopelessness transmitted from generation to generation. Sin Nombre doesn’t give the history or context for the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), which at 100,000-strong is widely considered one of the most fastest-growing and uncertain gangs in the world. In brief, the MS-13 is an outgrowth of the 1980s war in El Salvador, which led to a massive migration of up to two million refugees into the United States. Many settled in the Ramparts status of Los Angeles, where the gang was founded. Strict U.S. immigration policies in more new years have paradoxically worsened the gang pickle, allowing the MS-13 to secure footholds in Central America and Mexico. The MS-13 is known for its radiant tattoos, but some say members are sharp away from tattoos because they so brilliantly illuminate gang membership for authorities. Sin Nombre is getting universal acclaim, and richly deserves the directing and cinematography awards it garnered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival.

Sasha Baron Cohen’s latest creation, Bruno, makes his map to America to become uber-famous any procedure he can. And he goes through lots of different attempts on his procedure. Acting, interviewing celebrities, guesting on talk shows, becoming straight, he tries many methods, each with it’s painfully amusing result. You’ll esteem the Paula Abdul interview, particularly.
The interactions with people are improbable, and you will be appalled at what some parents will do to accept their children into indicate business. Fair ravishing.

There are a lot of shocking/uncomfortable comic moments (be prepared for gratuitous male nudity), and I am no obvious how they will occupy up for repeated viewings, but in a crowded theater, it was a sob. The ending is worth the buildup, and stick around for the closing song.
I laughed so hard that my face was hurting, and my wife was crying from laughing so hard. It takes a while to recover, but soooooo worth it!
NOT for the kids.
I have to study Bruno more than once, most people probably do too. That’s because Bruno is one of those rare movies where you’re laughing so hard at some parts you know you’re missing the next comic thing. As ecstatic, Austrian fashionista and celebrity-wannabe Bruno, Baron Cohen continues his jaw-droppingly crass and faulty stealth comedy antics. Purportedly, Baron Cohen has been beaten up while in character, so it only seems glowing that he makes his audience laugh hard enough to wound.
Of course the usual Baron Cohen caveat is in order: yes, its offensive, yes, its despicable, yes, there is a LOT of nudity, mostly male. If any of this is not your cup of tea, that’s dandy, no hard feelings. If you don’t mind the occasional peep of literally bouncing balls in the name of comedy, Bruno is pure gold.
Post Borat fame has probably necessitated that more of this movie be staged, with at least some of the people (a talk demonstrate host, the driver of an oncoming car) in on the joke. But scripted or natural- its wickedly amusing. And enough of it is genuine- including Bruno’s interview/sex tape with Ron Paul, parents of would-be baby stars volunteering their 12-month-olds to play Nazis, ex-gay ministers, straight-rally wrestling audiences and general bystanders to Bruno’s public antics.
Bruno balances the line between social commentary and comedy like a model on a catwalk. As with Borat half the humor comes from people reactings (or not) to the character’s obnoxious behavior, and half from the eerily top-notch caricature Baron Cohen creates. Fame-hound Bruno is everything narcissitic, uninformed, vain and with the all-too-common undeserved sense of entitlement that makes up the worst of American pop culture. As with Borat, Bruno learns some life-lessons and grows as a person by the destroy of the movie- as Baron Cohen always seems to want to better his audience, even if he has to beat them over the head with a dildo to do it.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), worn Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me roar.

I concept it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a terrified young boy star-struck by a renowned explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become lickety-split friends, and explain to one day go to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they hold their dream home and fix it up, hoping to possess it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through musty age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a delighted marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s damage when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.
When developers halt in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and fade to Paradise Falls. A dilapidated balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of shiny balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a pudgy, courageous kid trying to gather a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the frail man and the dinky boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a enormous rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of finish calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.
In the process, Carl learns to let go of his dark mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by magnificent hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole novel world.
Up is a deeply emotional film, tubby of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Bag another triumph for Pixar.
Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to do an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster piquant movie. But in the meantime, they’re tranquil putting out luscious absorbing movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety used man. It’s a charming, fun limited adventure sage with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet runt sage about loss and appreciate.
As a child, the disquieted Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared savor of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, travel into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.
Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a genuine estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an involved, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the stir. Dreadful kid was impartial trying to accumulate an “assisting the elderly” badge.
And the jungle chase to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a great emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious outmoded man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the faded guy is very familiar to Carl — and to pick Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.
Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as approved as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty archaic coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can savor Carl’s fancy for his lost wife, and his tedious realization that he’s clinging to the past.
In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they prove all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing ragged together, and finally loss.
But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy approach to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of huge dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Spy Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Frosty! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an extinct airship.
Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and obvious to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is clear to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special discover. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I care for you”) and act the device dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.
The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to collect shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of curious stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.
There are also a pair of adorable absorbing shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to divulge potentially unfavorable baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.
“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously entertaining, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can be pleased. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

If your a long time fan of Two and a Half Men, or even if you aren’t, you will treasure season 6. This is the season where we secure Charlie Harper growing up a slight bit, and at the same time staying as immature and conceited as possible. We ogle all of our celebrated characters do unusual anecdote lines of their enjoy with Alan having had a cramped scamper with ex-wife Judith and wondering if her pregnancy is a result of him or her recent husband Herb. We also win Alan with another possible romance with his receptionist Melissa. Meanwhile Charlie is remaining as hilarious as ever with his original wife-to-be Chelsea. The only one criticism I have is that of the character Jake who has lost a large deal of his appeal morphing from a cute and hilarious miniature pre-pubescent to a stereotypical teenager who eats too mighty. The character, however, quiet has his moments, objective not as distinguished as he faded to. All in all it is a hilarious season with a grand twist season finale! The season finale ends with unbiased as many questions as laughs with Herb Melnick’s character going into rotund “Ryan Stiles” mode with the actor playing the character Herb as if he were befriend on the hit ABC present Whose Line is it Anyway.

Any film that can pick up the family together for a fun,wholesome, and engaging belief, and absorb the interest of all for it’s entire length, gets 5 stars in my book. “Casper” is one of those films. It may not go down as some mammoth portion of cinematic art, but it is one that all generations can devour, will leave you with a smile, and something to talk about with kids afterwards.

Based on the passe amusing book stories, “Casper” is a very ample but very lonely ghost. He lives in an weak mansion, that has seen better days. He is not alone in this grand house though, he lives with his three very horrible(but silly) uncles,”Stretch”, “Stinky” and “Fatso”. Casper only wants someone to depart in,so he could have a friend, the uncles on the other hand, do their very best to anxiety away any visitors.
So when a greedy woman inherits the property, and believes there is a buried fancy inside, she hires an array of ‘ghostbusters’ to rid the house of all spirits. None seem to be able to handle this unpleasant trio, until one day a ghost psychiatrist and his lonely daughter(also looking for a friend),go in and try to tame the threesome. From there it’s a fun and wild trek, and a touching memoir of friendship.
The film has a terrific cast that works well with the amazing animation and special effects. Bill Pullman and Christina Ricci are the father and daughter team that encourage these spirits. Cathy Moriarty(”Forget Paris”), and Eric Sluggish as her bumbling assistant add their talents as they go for the appreciate.Lots of mammoth names are cameoed throughout. Don Novello, and Dan Aykroyd reprise their roles of Father Guido Sarducci, and ghostbuster Dr. Raymond Stantz for brief appearances, fair to name a couple.

The voices including Brad Garrett as “Fatso” are splendid, and you can never go tainted when James Horner scores a film with fair the lawful touches.
It’s rated PG for some occassional detached language and thematic elements, and at an hour and a half, it fair the lawful length, and is a palatable diagram to employ some laugh out loud family time together.

Who says there are no such things as ghosts? Not if there is the ghostly inhabitants of Whipstaff Manor in Friendship, Maine!

“August Accelerate” is a fairy record. It doesn’t have princes, princesses, sinful stepmothers, witches, or colossal awful wolves, but it’s a fairy fable nonetheless. And as such, it tells a narrative that resonates so strongly with its audience that it casts a magic spell. This movie is told in the language of music, and it exemplifies the harmonic connections between people, the rhythmic bonds that can never be broken in spite of distance and time. It’s also told in the language of faith, of the concept that cherish will indeed conquer all. No, this is not a realistic opinion, but that’s not the point. Isn’t it nice that we have films like this to dash to when realism is bringing us down? Isn’t it astonishing when we acquire that one film that can raise our spirits? “August Hasten” was that film for me, and I recommend it to anyone in need of a rejuvenating emotional boost.

The film stars Freddie Highmore as an orphan named Evan Taylor, a still yet definite musical prodigy. But Evan refuses to sink to their level of hopelessness; he runs away to Unusual York City, where the music seems to be beckoning him towards his destiny. It’s there he meets Wizard (Robin Williams), a shady musician who houses a number of musically inclined children in an abandoned theater. He, too, is beaten down by life, so mighty so that he uses these children for his enjoy financial obtain. When he discovers Evan’s natural ability to play the guitar, he gives him the pseudonym August Accelerate and forces him to develop in parks and on street corners.

Lyla, meanwhile, is living in Chicago as a music teacher. Single and without any children, she seems complacent yet stable in her original life. But all that changes when (1) she’s offered a change to once again play with the Unusual York Philharmonic Orchestra, and (2) she learns that her baby did not die eleven years ago. With a distinguished yet unexplainable determination, she travels relieve to Novel York on a quest to win her long lost son, a quest that will hopefully be added by her playing of the cello. Hoping to assist rep Evan is Richard Jeffries (Terrence Howard), a social worker who met the boy when he was quiet living at the orphanage.
And then, of course, there’s Louis, who has since gone on to be a businessman in San Francisco. His band members haven’t forgiven him for leaving, least of all his brother, Marshall (Alex O’Loughlin) . But worst of all, Louis hasn’t been able to forgive himself, and upon seeing footage of himself performing on stage, he remembers the care for he felt for Lyla. The memory is so strong that’s he vows to reunite with her. This slip of finding lost care for leads him from Chicago attend to Novel York City, where he’s inspired to rejoin with his band and restart his singing career. Powerful like his son–whom he doesn’t know exists–Louis is a gifted guitar player; one can hear his passion and energy with every chord, and his music operates at the same frequency as Lyla’s cello playing.
As you can probably pronounce, most of the film thrives on serendipity, and it gets more and more prominent with every passing scene. A kind-hearted pastor eventually takes Evan in, and when made aware of his musical genius, they send him to the Julliard School of Music. He composes a part within the first six months of his stop, one that the faculty believes is friendly enough to be performed. Thus sets into motion the events leading to one of the most satisfying endings of any movie I’ve seen this year, a scene so touching that I was in anxiety. As I listened to Evan’s “August’s Rhapsody,” I felt as if I had been enveloped in the folds of hope, fancy, and happiness; the earthiness of the chimes blended perfectly with the smoothness of the violins and the energy of the guitars, all of which made his unwavering faith in the power of connection perfectly definite.
This is the magic of “August Speed,” a film so improbable that I cannot recommend it enough. It’s a unique day chronicle with a timeless message, and it comes across so well that I never once stopped to reflect how implausible it is. Plausibility doesn’t even arrive into play, here. What does approach into play is the emotional impact, the sense that we can accept something out of it if we surrender to pure fantasy. Evan opens the film by saying, “Music is all around us–all we have to do is listen.” This is one of the year’s best films, and if you hold that quote in mind when seeing it, you’ll be more inclined to agree.
AUGUST Bustle will not go down in history as a profound film: many will even go so far as to dismiss it as kitsch, maudlin, and a simpleton remove off on ‘Oliver Twist’, and other pejoratives. Renamed August Accelerate, Evan has odd musical talents and hasty becomes a gigantic money maker for Wizard while at the same time being discovered as a potential pupil for Juilliard by Reverend James (Mykelti Williamson) and his girl singer Hope (Jamia Simone Nash) with assistance from beneficial social worker Richard Jefferies (Terrence Howard) . August Speed composes a rhapsody that is to be played in Central Park, a chance to region his music before the world and attract his parents, both of whom have returned to music careers after eleven years absence and learn of the existence of August Hasten, their ‘unknown son’. This movie appeared noteworthy more droll from previews, but seeing it in theaters objective did not live up to the hype. As I mentioned in my title it is mostly Jack Shaded, acting as Jack Sunless (Loud, Strange, Insensible) and Michael Cera acting as his characters usually would (Awkward, panicked, collected) but in a biblical setting.

The movie begins in a cramped village with Dark and Cera as friends. Shaded is a hunter and Cera is a gatherer. After eating from the tree of knowledge, Unlit is excommunicated from the village and Cera decides to follow, while the other members of the village are taken prisoner including Cera’s esteem interest.
The record continues leading the characters to several biblical events that are quite involving such as meeting Abraham, Cain and Able, Sodom, and many other events. Sunless and Cera continue on their quest finally liberating the village from their enslavement and seize and Cera becomes a more confident individual and gains the attention of his adore interest.

Overall the action is predictable and some of the moments in the movie miss their impress but with a few one liners and some moving biblical references this movie is stunning sterling once or twice.
Had considerable potential but they fair had to mess it up somehow. Few jokes are actually silly other then that never lives up to any potential. Got this cheesy B rated feeling do not slay your time better movies are out then this thing. Fair when it gets first-rate and you believe the movie starts to recall off it hits bottom again and again. Unrated version is unprejudiced extra obnoxious that is all.
